Q Does Dock-N-Talk work with modems, fax machines, security systems, credit card readers, Tivo, Direct TV or other satellite TV systems?
A Digital voice networks do not support modem or fax tones. Older analog service will allow use of modems at very low speeds and fax. The Dock-N-Talk will work with certain devices that use DTMF to transmit information such as various makes of security alarm systems. Certain credit card readers, Tivo, Direct TV or other satellite TV systems will only work if your cell phone supports an analog service or communicates using DTMF.
Several of our customers use this unit with their Ice Vending Machines to send the system trouble messages via cell phone (either monthly cost or prepaid) to the operaters as soon as the trouble is detected. A pre programmed message is sent (using a Linear Corp Phone Dialer model PD2) so no down time is experienced. This is a much more cost effective method than using satellite communications to a laptop.

I've transferred the number from the landline in my office (510.xxx.xxxx) to my cell phone. So throw away my previous cell phone number, which is due to stop working any moment now. My home phone number is unchanged.
For those who care about such things, I've essentially substituted a cell phone for the telephone company's wired service, while retaining use of all the preexisting landline extension handsets in the house. So when I'm at home, I connect my cell phone to a small device named the "Dock-n-Talk", which itself is permanently plugged into the one of the landline's preexisting extension jacks. The Dock-n-Talk provides the magic: it generate a ring signal for inbound calls and dial tone for outbound calls. Because the handsets think they're still connect to a regular (POTS) phone line, all their features still work just as before. Moreover, since the Dock-n-Talk is intimately connected to the cell phone, it provides access to all the whiz-bang features of my new phone--voice dialing, speed dialing, caller ID, call forwarding, etc. It even lets you know that you've got received voice mail by providing a stuttered dialtone.
The voice quality of the cell phone is not quite as good as a landline, but it's damned close--80-90 percent.
So in return for a $100+ investment in the Dock-n-Talk, I get rid of a $30/month phone bill plus long-distance charges, and, because I've changed to Cingular Wireless (owned by SBC), I get a monthly discount for accepting a combined bill for landline/cellular service.
It supports more than 1000 cell phones. I purchased mine from CellAmericas who had the best deal and provided excellent service.
