Q Who can use the In-Vehicle Amplifier?
A Anyone who is experiencing poor cellular coverage in a vehicle is a target for this product. This amplifier is dual band (800 MHz and 1900 MHz) and tri-mode (CDMA, TDMA and GSM modulation). It is, therefore, compatible with all cellular service providers, with the exception of iDEN (Nextel).
Q Does this product work worldwide?
A No, not in its current design. This first version is designed specifically for North American frequencies and carrier protocols (AMPS, CDMA, TDMA and GSM.
Q Will the In-Vehicle Amplifier work with any type of cell phone?
A It will work with any handheld cell phone that uses 800 MHz or 1900 MHz cellular bands and operates in the AMPS, CDMA, TDMA or GSM formats. It will not work with Nextel® phones.
Q Does the user need a cellular signal for the unit to operate?
A Yes, there must be a cellular signal present. This product will not generate a signal that isn't there.
Q Does the unit have to be professionally installed?
A No, but we recommend it. There are individuals who are capable of installing a car stereo, for instance, that will have no trouble installing the In-Vehicle Amplifier on his or her own. But, again, our recommendation is that a professional install it.
Q Does it matter where the antennas are installed?
A Yes, the two antennas connected to the amplifier need to be a certain distance apart in order to achieve the best isolation. If they are too close, the amplifier will automatically reduce the gain to prevent signal oscillation (similar to microphone feedback). The LED on the amplifier will be yellow or red if the antennas are not properly isolated. Ideally, the donor antenna (wing-shaped or magnetic mount antenna) should be mounted at the bottom of the rear window or, in the case of the magnetic mount, as far away from the internal patch (re-rad) antenna. The re-rad should be mounted as close as possible to where the cell phone will be used. The farther the cell phone is away from the re-rad antenna, the lower the amplification benefit. Ideally, this distance should not exceed 2-3 feet.
Q Will the In-Vehicle Amplifier work with “wired” hands-free kits connected to an external antenna?
A No, this unit is not designed to work with users using a wired hands-free kit. Our unit is best suited for users who do not use a hands-free kit, or who use a “wireless” hands-free kit such as Bluetooth®. We hope to have a solution for “wired” hands-free kit users in the near future.

A You should try to keep the re-rad antenna at least 8 inches away from the phone.
